The fifth and last week of Summer Academy is (sadly) coming to an end! Fitting to this week’s session titled Justice, Freedom and Law, the whole group ventured into Washington, D.C. to tour the National Archives to see the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, the National Museum of American History, and the National Gallery of Art.
While in the city, we made sure to stop by some of our most notable alumni proudly represented at the Museum of American History; Francis Scott Key, who wrote The Star Spangled Banner; and Warren Winiarski, founder of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars and winner of the prestigious Paris Wine Tasting of 1976.
At the National Archives we saw our friends Charles Carroll, Samuel Chase, William Paca and Thomas Stone, who not only signed the Declaration of Independence, but are also four of the founders of St. John’s College. If you visit us, you’ll see that several buildings on campus are named after these gentlemen.
