Coffee (and Tea!) of Santa Fe

There are a lot of great things to do and see in Santa Fe, and for a Johnnie looking for a great place to hang out with friends, read, or work on an essay, Santa Fe’s many excellent coffee shops are top of the list! Here are a just a few of our favorite coffee (and tea!) shops of Santa Fe.

Downtown Subscription

Located near Canyon road and conveniently (or dangerously) next door to Garcia Street Books, Downtown Subscription is a great place to grab a pastry to go (I am a fan of the apple pie) or sit and while away the hours. It features a newsstand well stocked with papers and magazines, art by local artists, live music, delicious baked goods, a bright friendly interior with plenty of seating. What more could you want? Make sure to ask about the motorcycle!

The Teahouse

It’s not technically a coffee shop, the no list would be complete without The Teahouse on Canyon Road. A favorite among students, staff, and faculty alike, The Teahouse boasts an amazing location surrounded by art galleries, a large menu of delicious hot and cold beverages, and a hit-the-spot food menu. It’s a great place to go for tea, of course, but also a meal, dessert, or some snacks and appetizers. Cozy indoor seating a delightful courtyard option for the warmer months make this a great destination not far from campus!

Iconik Coffee

Iconik coffee has multiple great downtown locations, and is also the coffee served in the Peterson Coffee Shop on campus! My personal favorite off-campus Iconik Coffee spot is located within The Collected Works bookstore (you may sense a theme here), but you can’t go wrong with any location. With great coffee (and tea!) accompanied by a breakfast items, sandwiches, salads, and smoothies, Iconik has a little bit of everything. The cherry on top? Iconik Coffee is owned by a St. John’s alum, and provides a discount with St. John’s ID!

The Cave

Is it a coffee shop? An event space? A student hangout? A Plato reference? The Cave is whatever students currently want it to be! The Cave is a student run space on campus, and has taken many different forms over the years, changing with the needs and interests of the students that run it. While it’s currently serving up open mics and board game nights rather than hot beverages, it still more than merits a spot on this list for its low-key atmosphere, convenient location (can’t get more convenient than the center of campus!), and for its adaptability!
